What is Performance Management?

Performance management is made up of the discussions that take place between managers and employees to frankly talk about performance, to celebrate successes, to find ways to build on strengths, to clarify expectations, to get back on track in areas where we have faltered and to identify tools and training that will help us to fulfill our job responsibilities. The performance appraisal is the time to formally document the performance conversations that happen throughout the year.
The performance appraisal is not intended to be the only method of performance feedback between manager and employee. To truly manage performance, it is crucial that performance discussions continue throughout the year and this requires an ongoing commitment of both manager and employee.
